Kenton Court, Kensington

The design met extremely challenging site constraints: preserving existing parking and amenity space, avoiding overlooking and overshadowing the adjacent properties, whilst not impacting on the neighbouring Holland Park conservation area. The formation of two new Backpack houses over three floors, raised above the car park and attached to the rear blank façade of the host block propped upon large struts and held in place by steel cables. The design is overtly modern and tectonic, using brushed stainless steel and chestnut cladding.

This project was led by Matthew Swinhoe, director of ZRP, whilst at Hutchinson Studio Architects.
